PCWA and PG&E Settle for $80M over 2022 Mosquito Fire Impact
Placer County Water Agency and the Middle Fork Project Finance Authority have secured an $80 million settlement with PG&E concerning damages from the 2022 Mosquito Fire. This agreement resolves all related litigation and aims to enhance the safety of the power grid.

The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) and the Middle Fork Project Finance Authority reached an $80 million settlement with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) regarding the 2022 Mosquito Fire, which began on September 6, 2022.
The fire burned nearly 77,000 acres and affected operations at PCWA's Middle Fork American River Hydroelectric Project, forcing it offline for approximately six months. PG&E's payment will be directed to the finance authority for managing hydroelectric operations.
Additionally, PG&E will undertake modifications to its electric infrastructure to enhance safety and reliability. This settlement may set a precedent for future wildfire-related liabilities in California.
