Pekin City Council Pressures WHP on Data Center Decision
Pekin city officials are urging Western Hospitality Partners to decide on a proposed data center, with an 11-month deadline for due diligence. The city cannot formally reject the project until a proposal is submitted, but council members have expressed opposition, complicating the potential for re-zoning approval.

Western Hospitality Partners (WHP) has 11 months to conduct due diligence on a proposed data center in Pekin, with a requirement to apply for re-zoning of a 321-acre section of the Lutticken Farm property. City Attorney Jim Vasselli noted that the current agricultural zoning prevents the establishment of a data center.
The Zoning Board of Appeals will first review WHP's re-zoning application, which is expected to face significant public commentary and skepticism, as five of seven council members have publicly opposed the project. As residents express concerns, the council has clarified it cannot formally decline the project until WHP submits a proposal.
