The meeting focused on two key permits required for the project, which aims to feature 15 data center buildings. Community concerns about water usage and environmental impacts were raised, while NorthPoint assured that the project would provide economic growth without burdening local residents.

The Pennsylvania DEP held a public hearing concerning Project Hazelnut, a proposed 1,282-acre data center campus in Hazle Township, as NorthPoint Development appeals a previous land development denial. The meeting, scheduled for four hours, was focused on two permits necessary for the project.
NorthPoint aims to construct 15 data center buildings, which was expedited under an economic initiative by Governor Josh Shapiro in November 2024. While NorthPoint highlighted community benefits and environmental precautions, residents voiced concerns regarding water usage, which could reach 2.8 million gallons per day. The DEP will review public comments before making final decisions, as the appeal remains in court.
