Pennsylvania Lawmaker Proposes Bills to Regulate AI Data Center Development
Pennsylvania State Rep. Jamie Walsh announced plans to introduce a series of bills regulating AI data center development in Pennsylvania. Walsh highlighted concerns from communities about the rapid pace of data center construction and its potential impacts on residents, utility systems, farmland, and water supply.
He noted that companies are looking to build data centers in his legislative district due to nearby resources and open land. Walsh stressed the need for clearer proposals regarding water and electricity requirements and questioned whether Pennsylvania's power grid and water systems can meet the increased demand without raising costs for residents. His legislative package is based on proposals from states like Florida and aims to establish standards for responsible and transparent data center development with community involvement.
