Pentagon Enters Low-Cost Missile Agreements with Defense Firms
The Pentagon has signed agreements with Anduril, CoAspire, Leidos, and Zone 5 to acquire over 10,000 low-cost missiles, starting in 2027. This initiative is part of a broader push to enhance U.S. military capabilities amid rising geopolitical tensions and demands for increased munitions production.
The Pentagon's new "Low-Cost Containerized Munitions" program will potentially acquire over 10,000 missiles over three years beginning in 2027. Framework agreements with Anduril, CoAspire, Leidos, and Zone 5 will facilitate this procurement, with the assessment phase starting in June 2026, focusing on test missile purchases.
Additionally, a separate agreement with Castelion aims for a minimum annual purchase of 500 Blackbeard hypersonic missiles, with plans for over 12,000 units over five years. The Pentagon's FY2027 budget request includes over $26 billion for munitions procurement, reflecting elevated demand linked to ongoing conflicts. This strategy indicates a shift towards integrating emerging defense technology firms, aiming to enhance production capacity and operational readiness.
