PepsiCo Partners with CF Industries for Low-Carbon Fertiliser in Potato Farming
PepsiCo has entered a commercial agreement with CF Industries to utilize low-carbon nitrogen fertilisers in potato cultivation. This initiative aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with potato farming, which contribute up to 20% of the sector's emissions.

PepsiCo will incorporate blue hydrogen-based nitrogen fertilisers from CF Industries to cultivate potatoes for its Frito-Lay brand. The UAN will be produced at CF's Donaldsonville, Louisiana facility, which has implemented carbon capture and storage technologies.
This partnership is expected to help mitigate PepsiCo's emissions footprint and support farmers by integrating sustainable practices into their operations. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but CF's leadership indicates the viability of low-carbon fertilisers. The market for hydrogen-based fertilisers is gaining traction, with minimal cost increase projected for consumers, estimated between 1% and 3%.
