HYDROGEN

PT Pertamina is actively pursuing a merger of its airline subsidiary, Pelita Air, with Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier. This strategic move, coordinated under the umbrella of Daya Anagata Nusantara, aims to streamline operations and enhance focus on core business areas, particularly in oil, gas, and renewable energy. Simon Aloysius Mantiri, Pertamina's CEO, highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader effort to optimize business processes across all sectors, ensuring efficiency and reinforcing stakeholder trust.

Pelita Air has shown remarkable progress, reporting a net profit of approximately Rp 694.23 billion in 2024, reflecting a 129% increase from the previous year. The airline's revenue rose by 81%, and a significant EBITDA increase of over 580% indicates a robust operational framework. Furthermore, Pelita Air achieved an impressive 94.3% on-time performance rate, becoming the most punctual airline in Indonesia, and opened five new routes to enhance connectivity within the archipelago.

In tandem with these developments, Pertamina is also focusing on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as part of its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Notably, a successful trial flight using SAF produced by Pertamina showcased the potential for greener aviation solutions. This aligns with the company's broader sustainability goals, which include transitioning to clean energy and reducing reliance on imported oil.

The significance of this merger and the push for sustainable practices reflect Indonesia's ongoing energy transition efforts. With ambitious plans for biodiesel and hydrogen initiatives in the pipeline, Pertamina is determined to collaborate with various stakeholders to navigate the challenges of this transition. As the country strives for a resilient energy future, the emphasis on sustainability and efficiency remains paramount in shaping the aviation industry and beyond.
