Pesa Bydgoszcz to Acquire German Tram Maker HeiterBlick for European Expansion
Pesa Bydgoszcz, a Polish manufacturer, is set to acquire Leipzig-based tram builder HeiterBlick GmbH to enhance its presence in the European rail market, supported by Poland's state-owned development fund PFR. This strategic move follows a €1.6 billion financing agreement aimed at boosting production capacity and addressing operational needs, as Pesa seeks to double its output and expand its international contracts. The company, which currently has an order backlog exceeding PLN 15 billion (€3.5 billion), is also developing innovative products, including a high-speed electric multiple unit and a hydrogen-powered locomotive.

Polish manufacturer Pesa Bydgoszcz will acquire 100% of Leipzig-based tram builder HeiterBlick GmbH as part of its expansion into the European rail market. The acquisition, backed by Poland's state-owned development fund PFR, aims to strengthen Pesa's presence in western Europe amid challenges in the German economy.
The deal follows a €1.6 billion financing agreement to enhance production capacity and cover operational needs. Pesa's current order backlog exceeds PLN 15 billion (€3.5 billion), and it plans to double production capacity through increased automation.
The company is also developing new products, including a 250 km/h electric multiple unit and a hydrogen-powered locomotive. Pesa has been expanding its operations internationally, including contracts in Romania and the Czech Republic.
