Pesa Bydgoszcz to Acquire German Tram Maker HeiterBlick for European Expansion
Polish manufacturer Pesa Bydgoszcz will acquire 100% of Leipzig-based tram builder HeiterBlick GmbH as part of its expansion into the European rail market. The acquisition, backed by Poland's state-owned development fund PFR, aims to strengthen Pesa's presence in western Europe amid challenges in the German economy.
The deal follows a €1.6 billion financing agreement to enhance production capacity and cover operational needs. Pesa's current order backlog exceeds PLN 15 billion (€3.5 billion), and it plans to double production capacity through increased automation.
The company is also developing new products, including a 250 km/h electric multiple unit and a hydrogen-powered locomotive. Pesa has been expanding its operations internationally, including contracts in Romania and the Czech Republic.
