Petredec and Carnot Partner to Develop Alternative Fuel Marine Engines
HYDROGENAMMONIANATURAL GASMETHANOL
Petredec has partnered with Carnot Engines to develop engines designed for multiple alternative fuels, including LPG, LNG, ammonia, hydrogen, methanol, and diesel, targeting thermal efficiency of up to 70%. This collaboration will leverage Petredec's shipping expertise and Carnot's technology to enhance deployment across shipping, transport, and power generation sectors.
Petredec will support the development of an LPG-fueled version and acquire shares in Carnot. Durability testing is expected to commence in Q2 2026, with initial commercial demonstrators projected for H2 2026. LPG is currently a niche alternative bunker fuel, primarily used in gas carriers.
