Petrobras to Fully Restart Fertilizer Plants in Bahia and Sergipe by January 2026

AMMONIA

Petrobras plans to fully restart ammonia and urea production at its fertilizer plants in Bahia and Sergipe by the end of January 2026. The FAFEN-SE plant in Sergipe resumed ammonia production on December 31, 2025, and urea production on January 3, 2026.

The FAFEN-BA plant in Bahia completed maintenance in December 2025, with urea production set to restart by the end of January. These plants supply approximately 12% of Brazil's urea demand. Petrobras regained control of both plants in May 2025 after settling a dispute with Proquigel.

The company aims to meet 20% of domestic urea demand by 2030, following investments of $1 billion in fertilizers during 2026-2030. Petrobras also restarted the ANSA plant in Parana in August 2025 and is exploring the completion of the UFN-III plant in Mato Grosso do Sul, which was halted in 2014. Completion of UFN-III is projected for 2028 with an estimated cost of $900 million.
