Petronet LNG Faces Uncertainty in Qatari Supply Amid Global LNG Market Shifts
Petronet LNG lacks clarity on its September LNG supplies from Qatar due to ongoing force majeure. As supply disruptions from Qatar impact logistics, India is diversifying imports from alternative sources like Oman and the U.S., reflecting a broader trend in the LNG market influenced by geopolitical tensions.

Petronet LNG has not received a concrete LNG supply plan from Qatar, which has declared force majeure affecting multiple cargoes. This disruption has led India to seek LNG from alternative suppliers, including Oman and the U.S.
The company is expected to receive 600,000 metric tons from Australia’s Gorgon project this year under a separate contract. Meanwhile, the Papua LNG project in Papua New Guinea aims to produce over 5 million tons of LNG annually but faces challenges securing customers and funding amid environmental concerns.
Regional buyers like Japan and South Korea are potential markets as energy security becomes paramount due to the Middle Eastern conflicts. The situation highlights the need for stable supply sources as global LNG dynamics shift.
