Philippines ERC Implements Microgrid Regulations to Enhance Electrification
The Energy Regulatory Commission of the Philippines has established new rules for microgrid systems to support electrification efforts nationwide. These regulations will enhance electricity access and consumer protection in underserved areas, promoting sustainable energy solutions.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in the Philippines has adopted the Rules Governing Microgrid Systems, aiming to boost nationwide electrification and consumer protection. The regulations implement the Microgrid Systems Act, establishing a framework for isolated and grid-tied microgrid systems, requiring providers to deliver continuous electricity service and achieve household electrification.
A tariff mechanism based on the Full Cost Recovery Rate (FCRR) will allow providers to recover investments while ensuring fair pricing. The framework promotes the use of renewable energy sources and includes mechanisms like Subsidized Approved Retail Rates (SARR) to assist consumers. The initiative is expected to enhance service reliability in remote areas, supporting economic growth and improving living conditions.
