Philippines House Passes Energy Storage Systems Act to Enhance Renewable Energy Integration

The Philippine House of Representatives passed the Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Act on February 4, 2026, with 192 votes, aiming to develop a national framework for energy storage systems. The act supports the integration of renewable energy, targeting 50% by 2040.

It will enhance grid reliability and allow for energy storage systems to optimize electricity supply and demand. The Department of Energy will oversee implementation, while the Energy Regulatory Commission will establish licensing and safety standards. The bill must be approved by the Senate before being signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
