PhonePe Leverages In-House Technology for Profitability Ahead of IPO

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

PhonePe is advancing towards its IPO by leveraging its proprietary technology stack to ensure profitability. The fintech leader in India's UPI payments market has invested Rs 33.73 billion since 2016 in a four-layer technology architecture, featuring self-operated data centers and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).

This infrastructure supports a compute layer with over 1 million cores and maintains 30.95 petabytes of storage. PhonePe expects its technology to facilitate higher-margin ventures like insurance and lending, which should bolster its low-margin payments business.

The platform achieved peak transactions of 22,369 per second and a 94.37% resolution rate for 12.82 million customer support tickets in September 2025. The company's technology strategy hinges on governance, cost optimization, and flexibility, crucial for transforming diversified financial operations into sustainable profitability.
