Piauí Leverages 8 GW Clean Energy Surplus to Attract Data Centers and Green Hydrogen Industries
Piauí is utilizing an 8 GW surplus of clean energy to pivot its economy towards high-energy, low-carbon industries, specifically targeting data centers and green hydrogen production. This capacity, exceeding local consumption by eight times, stems from a significant increase in renewable sources, primarily solar and wind.
The state plans to transition from merely exporting electricity to producing high-value products. The strategy encompasses attracting data centers, which require reliable energy, and developing green hydrogen, positioned as a key energy vector for decarbonizing industries. The government aims to create a robust infrastructure to support this shift, enhancing local consumption and industrial capabilities.
