Pittsburg Power Company Assures Mare Island Residents on Data Center Costs

Pittsburg Power Company representatives stated that utility rates for Mare Island will remain unaffected by the proposed data center, which is set to consume 99 megawatts of power. Regulated under Proposition 26, the city will not transfer any expenses related to the data center to Mare Island residents.

In 2024, the data center was approved, despite significant public opposition regarding environmental and economic implications, including an online petition that gathered over 14,200 signatures. The facility will have its energy costs covered by its tenant, and necessary infrastructure upgrades will be financed by the developer, ensuring no additional financial burden on residents. Concerns persist regarding data centers' water usage and transparency, which have affected similar projects nationwide.
