The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning for the Berry Hill megasite to allow special heavy industrial use. This new zoning district facilitates development without public hearings.
The site, which has seen over $217 million invested since 2008, is now shovel-ready. The rezoning encompasses 3,500 acres and aims to attract industrial developers, including those for data centers and power generation.
Concerns were raised by residents regarding the expedited process and potential lack of oversight for developments. The first tenant, Microporous, a battery separator manufacturer, will occupy 200 acres, with efforts ongoing to attract additional developers.
