PJM Interconnection Accepts 715 New Generation Projects in Reformed Process
PJM Interconnection has approved 715 new generation projects totaling over 200 GW for study in its reformed interconnection process. This initiative aims to enhance the predictability and efficiency of project evaluations to meet rising electricity demand, projected to increase by 70 GW by 2038.

PJM Interconnection has accepted 715 projects for study, collectively capable of generating over 200 GW, in its first reformed interconnection cycle. This new process aims to eliminate backlog and expedite project evaluations, with studies projected to take one to two years.
The application window closed on April 27, resulting in 811 proposals, which underwent initial screening for technical and financial requirements. The projects encompass a variety of resources, with storage leading at 314 projects, followed by natural gas and solar.
PJM anticipates increased electricity demand driven by large consumers, necessitating timely interconnections to ensure grid reliability for 67 million residents across 13 states and the District of Columbia. The organization will utilize advanced tools, including AI-enabled solutions, to enhance operational efficiency.
