Plainfield Village Proposes 180-Day Moratorium on Data Center Developments
Plainfield Village trustees are set to vote on a 180-day moratorium on data center proposals to establish new guidelines. This initiative arises from concerns over data center impacts in surrounding areas, aiming to align future developments with long-term planning goals.

Plainfield Village is considering a moratorium on data center applications for 180 days to develop a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) addressing land use and regulatory challenges. The decision follows concerns raised in nearby communities like Joliet and Yorkville regarding the impacts of data centers.
During this period, the village will monitor state legislation and propose comprehensive regulations. If the UDO is not completed within the timeframe, the moratorium may be extended. This move reflects the village's authority as a home-rule community to ensure regulations are in line with planning objectives.
