A planning application for the upgrade of the Ballinabranna Wastewater Treatment Plant is expected in Q2 2026. This upgrade, supported by Carlow councillor Daniel Pender, aims to increase wastewater capacity, facilitating further housing development in the area.

Pender has consistently raised this issue with Government Ministers and Irish Water, stressing the necessity of the project. He noted that while the upgrade will significantly boost capacity, the actual number of new homes it can support will depend on future developments and technical assessments. Pender insists that infrastructure must align with housing demand.
