Planqc Develops Quantum Computer for Leibniz Supercomputing Center and DLR in Germany

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTUREQUANTUM COMPUTING

Planqc is building a quantum computer aimed at providing significant value, specifically for the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) in Garching, Germany, and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). These computers will be integrated with supercomputers to address specific computational problems.

Quantum computers are intended to handle resource-intensive tasks, although they currently cannot solve industry-relevant problems. Industries are encouraged to gain early experience in preparation for advancements in quantum computing capabilities.

Potential applications include climate research, battery material development, logistics route calculations, and drug research. Interest in quantum technology has increased among industrial clients, including the European Space Agency (ESA), Deutsche Bahn, Rhein-Neckar-Hafen, and Airbus Defence.

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is also exploring quantum computing applications for schedule optimization. Currently, there is no established market for quantum computers, making government contracts crucial for the industry.
