Plans for New Hydroelectric Turbines on River Derwent in Derby Approved
Plans for additional hydroelectric turbines on the River Derwent in Derby have been approved, aimed at generating renewable energy. The current hydro plant powers the Council House and surrounding buildings. Darley Community Energy is working on a similar project at Darley Abbey. Funding has been allocated to develop a business case for a new plant to support the SmartParc business park in Spondon.

Derby has approved plans for new hydroelectric turbines on the River Derwent, which could generate renewable energy. The existing hydro plant powers the Council House and has generated nearly £17,000 worth of electricity.
Darley Community Energy is advancing a project for a similar turbine at Darley Abbey. Funding will now support a business case for another turbine near Borrowash, which could help power the SmartParc business park in Spondon. The Environment Agency has agreed to increase the current plant's output by at least 60%.
