Platinum Equity Acquires Iberconsa from Portobello for €550 Million
In 2015, Iberconsa marked a significant private equity entry in Galicia's fishing sector with Portobello Capital's acquisition. Following expansion efforts, Portobello sold its stake to Platinum Equity in 2019 for €550 million. Despite challenges such as COVID-19 and rising costs, Iberconsa's revenue has grown to approximately €500 million, employing over 3,800 workers. Moody's noted the company's reliance on emerging markets, particularly in Argentina, Namibia, and South Africa.

Iberconsa, a Galician fishing company, experienced a significant shift in ownership starting in 2015 when Portobello Capital acquired a majority stake, valued at €150 million. This acquisition led to substantial expansion, including the establishment of Iberconsa Seafood Processing in Vigo.
Portobello initiated a divestment process in 2018, concluding with the sale to Platinum Equity in 2019 for €550 million. Despite external challenges, Iberconsa's revenue has increased to nearly €500 million, with a fleet of 42 vessels and over 3,800 employees. The company is exposed to emerging markets, notably Argentina, Namibia, and South Africa.
