Plus Power Launches New England's Largest Battery Storage Facility in Gorham, Maine
The Cross Town Energy Storage facility in Gorham, Maine, is now operational, boasting a capacity of 175 megawatts. This facility is designed to store electricity during low demand periods and release it during peak demand times, enhancing grid reliability and stabilizing prices. With this addition, Maine has achieved over half of its 400 megawatt energy storage goal for 2030. Governor Janet Mills emphasizes its role in the state's transition to 100% clean energy by 2040 and its potential to mitigate rising electricity costs.

The Cross Town Energy Storage facility in Gorham, Maine, is now operational with a capacity of 175 megawatts, marking it as New England's largest standalone battery storage facility. It can provide continuous power for about 19,000 homes for two and a half hours and is designed to store electricity during low demand and release it during peak demand periods.
This project contributes to Maine's goal of reaching 400 megawatts of energy storage by 2030. Governor Janet Mills highlighted its importance in transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2040 and managing electricity costs amid rising demand, which is expected to double by 2050.
