Pohang Designated as Korea's First Distributed Energy Specialized Zone for Green Ammonia Project
Pohang City has been designated as South Korea's first 'Distributed Energy Specialized Zone' to develop a clean energy system for local industries, following a review by the Energy Committee. The initiative includes the 'Green Ammonia-Based Carbon-Free Distributed Energy Demonstration Project,' which will establish a hydrogen engine power generation facility capable of producing 40MW of carbon-free electricity for local businesses, including secondary battery companies. This project, led by a consortium of GS E&C, Amoji, and HD Hyundai Infracore, aims to enhance the competitiveness of Pohang's industries in light of global carbon regulations.

Pohang City has been designated as South Korea's first 'Distributed Energy Specialized Zone' following a review by the Energy Committee on December 25. This initiative aims to develop a distributed energy system that supplies locally produced clean energy to regional industries.
The core project is the 'Green Ammonia-Based Carbon-Free Distributed Energy Demonstration Project,' which will build a hydrogen engine power generation facility in the Yeongil Bay General Industrial Complex. The facility is planned to generate approximately 40MW of carbon-free electricity, which will be supplied directly to local industries, including secondary battery companies.
The project will be implemented by a consortium of GS E&C, Amoji, and HD Hyundai Infracore. This designation is expected to support Pohang's local industries, particularly those heavily reliant on exports, by enhancing their competitiveness in response to global carbon regulations.
