Polystyrene Recycling Alliance and R3vira Collaborate to Enhance Recycling in Mexico City
The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance has teamed up with R3vira to enhance polystyrene recycling in Mexico City by expanding collection infrastructure and increasing post-consumer recovery. R3vira plans to double its micro-route collection system by 2026, supported by investments from the Alliance to improve operational capacity and workforce development. The initiative aims to integrate polystyrene into circular material flows in North America, with recovered materials processed into FDA-compliant recycled resin for new packaging.

The Polystyrene Recycling Alliance and R3vira have partnered to expand polystyrene recycling infrastructure in Mexico City. This collaboration integrates a North American industry coalition with R3vira's community-based collection systems.
The initiative aims to strengthen the circular economy for polystyrene by increasing post-consumer recovery volumes and directing collected material into stable recycling pathways. R3vira plans to double its 'peque-ruta' micro-route collection system from 12 to 24 routes by 2026 to enhance recovery rates.
Investments from the Alliance will improve operational infrastructure, including densification equipment and warehouse capacity, and develop the local workforce. Recovered materials will be processed through R3vira's partnership with Resirene, facilitating closed-loop recycling into FDA-compliant recycled polystyrene resin for new packaging applications. The project seeks to integrate polystyrene into circular material flows in North America.
