Port Neches to Upgrade Sewage Plant, Avoids $240K Fine
Port Neches will invest $490,000 in wastewater infrastructure upgrades to offset a $240,000 penalty for discharge violations. This decision reflects a commitment to enhance environmental safety and compliance.

The City of Port Neches will avoid a $240,000 fine related to its wastewater treatment violations by investing $490,000 in a project focusing on infrastructure upgrades. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved this agreement after the city was found to exceed discharge limits for pollutants, including biochemical oxygen demand and Enterococci bacteria, from August 2022 to June 2023.
The planned Clarifier Rehabilitation project aims to enhance key components of the wastewater facility, essential for meeting environmental standards. The city must show compliance over three consecutive months within 130 days to fulfill the agreement's requirements. This proactive measure indicates a potential shift towards improved environmental management in the region.
