Port of Algeciras Unveils €677m Investment Strategy for 2026-2030
The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has approved a €677 million investment plan aimed at enhancing container capacity and connectivity. This initiative positions Algeciras to handle over six million TEUs annually by 2030, reinforcing its role as a key Mediterranean transshipment hub.

The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras has authorized a €677 million investment plan for 2026-2030, focusing on container capacity, shore power, and rail connectivity. The Business Plan 2027 expects an additional €711 million in private investment, including expansions at Total Terminal International Algeciras and a new industrial yard for HVDC platform construction.
TTI Algeciras, which is jointly controlled by HMM and CMA Terminals Espagne, aims to enhance its capacity from 1.6 million TEUs to 2.8 million TEUs by 2028. A total of €124 million is allocated for improving inland rail connectivity, including a new terminal in Botafuegos and a 3.65-km rail link to the port. This development is vital for maintaining competitiveness against Tangier Med amidst ongoing structural changes in the shipping industry.
