Port of Alicante Issues Tender for 1MW Hydrogen Plant to Enhance Green Energy Hub Status
The Port Authority of Alicante has launched a tender for a 1MW electrolytic hydrogen plant, named Portali-H2, which aims to enhance the port's green energy hub status by utilizing at least 70% renewable energy. The hydrogen produced will support local maritime and land transport operations, while the project is designed to meet high safety standards and minimize visual impact. The initiative seeks to reduce emissions and attract investment, positioning the port as a sustainability leader in the Mediterranean.

The Port Authority of Alicante has initiated a tender for the construction of a 1MW electrolytic hydrogen plant aimed at supporting mobility applications. The project, named Portali-H2, intends to use at least 70% renewable energy, promoting energy autonomy.
The hydrogen produced will serve port operations, local maritime transport, and land transport. A designated area of 500m² is allocated for the plant, alongside 3,000m² for renewable energy generation to power the electrolyser.
The timeline for the project will be determined following the tender selection process. The Port Authority emphasizes the plant's role in reducing emissions, attracting investment, and establishing the port as a sustainability benchmark in the Mediterranean. High safety standards and minimal visual impact are required in the design of the facility.
