Port of Long Beach Launches Cyber Defense Operations Center Amid Cargo Volume Fluctuations
The Port of Long Beach has introduced a Cyber Defense Operations Center to enhance cybersecurity amid rising threats. This move is crucial as the port recently reported a 5.7% dip in overall cargo volumes and aims to secure $300 billion in annual trade.

The Port of Long Beach has opened a Cyber Defense Operations Center to bolster its cybersecurity measures, doubling on-site personnel dedicated to digital supply chain protection. This initiative comes as the port recorded nearly 818,000 TEUs in April, a 5.7% decrease from the previous year, despite a notable 26.7% increase in exports.
The center integrates cyber operations and harbor patrol, addressing the growing sophistication of cyber threats. Recent data indicates a 103% rise in maritime cyber incidents from 2024 to 2025, emphasizing the need for robust defenses. The U.S. government is also increasing funding for port security, reflecting heightened awareness of vulnerabilities in the sector.
