Port of Montreal Completes New Electrical Substation for CanEst Yard Project
The Port of Montreal has completed a new electrical substation, a crucial aspect of the CanEst Yard redevelopment, for CA$ 13 million. This upgrade modernizes the electrical infrastructure and enhances operational capabilities across the port.

The Port of Montreal has brought its new Substation 3 into service, completing a significant aspect of the CanEst Yard redevelopment project. The substation, with a distribution capacity of 15.6 MVA, replaces the older facility and enhances power supply for sections 24 to 51 of the port territory.
The total project cost was CA$ 13 million, under the estimated budget of CA$ 14.7 million. Key infrastructure includes a 25 kV auxiliary room and dual Hydro-Québec feeds. Maintaining power supply during construction was a major challenge. The port operates a network of seven substations, making this upgrade vital for operational reliability.
