Port of Trelleborg to Install 4.0MWh Battery Storage by December 2026
The Port of Trelleborg has contracted Takorama Elteknik to install a 4.0MWh battery storage system by December 1, 2026, to enhance its energy management capabilities. The port currently generates around 15 million kWh annually from wind turbines and a photovoltaic farm, and the new system will help manage power peaks during simultaneous vessel operations. With the addition of two onshore power supply stations, the port can service up to six ferries at once.

The Port of Trelleborg has commissioned Takorama Elteknik to install a 4.0MWh battery storage system near ferry berth 8, with project completion expected by December 1, 2026. The port currently generates approximately 15 million kWh annually from two wind turbines and an additional 500,000 kWh from a 2,200 m² photovoltaic farm.
The stored energy will help manage power peaks when multiple vessels connect to the port's onshore power supply (OPS). Following the addition of two OPS stations, the port can now service up to six ferries simultaneously.
