Potain Tower Crane Facilitates Hydropower Upgrade in Italy
The Hône 2 hydroelectric plant in Italy is undergoing a €156 million upgrade to double energy production. The Potain MDT 269 J12 crane is pivotal for the project, which will enhance efficiency and logistics.

The Hône 2 hydroelectric plant in the Aosta Valley is set for a significant upgrade, aiming to increase energy production from 50 GWh to 100 GWh. This €156 million project, initiated in July 2025 and expected to conclude by 2028, is managed by Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque and involves Spanish company CVA SpA.
A Potain MDT 269 J12 topless tower crane is deployed to assist with the installation of a new high-capacity penstock, lifting approximately 3 tonnes at a maximum radius with a 65-metre jib. The crane's direct handling capabilities are designed to streamline logistics, enhancing operational efficiency. Post Hône 2, the crane will be utilized for the Cervinia 3S ropeway project, indicating ongoing infrastructure development in the region.
