Power Grid Bangladesh Proposes 60% Increase in Transmission Charges
Power Grid Bangladesh plans to raise transmission charges to Tk 0.49 per unit from Tk 0.31 starting June 1. This substantial increase is under review by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission amid concerns over project selection and operational inefficiencies.

Effective June 1, Power Grid Bangladesh aims to increase its average transmission charge by 60%, proposing a rise to Tk 0.49 per unit. During a public hearing conducted by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, stakeholders raised issues regarding project selection and high infrastructure expenses, citing concerns over financial waste.
Specific increases include Tk 0.48 per unit for 230 kV lines (up from Tk 0.30), Tk 0.49 for 132 kV lines (up from Tk 0.31), and Tk 0.49 for 33 kV lines (up from Tk 0.31). The proposed hikes could lead to increased costs for consumers, affecting overall electricity pricing.
