American Transmission Systems, Inc. (ATSI) is finalizing a $24 million upgrade to the power grid in Trumbull County, Ohio. The project includes rebuilding nearly three miles of the Niles Central-Packard 138-kV Transmission Line, replacing wooden poles with 22 steel structures, and installing thicker wire to improve capacity and reliability.
These enhancements aim to reduce outages and expedite restoration processes, accommodating increased energy demands. This initiative is part of FirstEnergy's Energize365 program, which plans to invest $36 billion from 2026 to 2030 to modernize the grid. Potential impacts include improved service for residential and business growth in the region, while addressing infrastructure resilience against severe weather and other disruptions.
