PPC Romania to Construct 15 MWh Battery Storage System in Ilfov for Renewable Energy
PPC Romania plans to build a 15 MWh battery energy storage system at its Căciulați transformer station in Ilfov. This project, estimated at EUR 3.6 million, will replace an existing concrete building and is part of PPC's larger initiative to enhance storage in its distribution networks in Romania.
The facility will connect to the 20/110 kV Căciulați Electrical Transformer Station and will occupy a built-up area of 870 square meters on a 5,761 square meter site owned by Rețele Electrice România S.A. The investment aligns with recent trends in Romania, where renewable energy sources have increased significantly, leading to challenges in managing excess energy production. PPC is also investing in storage systems at six local renewable plants, supported by the EU's Modernization Fund, and has committed EUR 3 billion to its Romanian operations over the next three years.
