Prater's Mill Restoration Project Addresses Safety and Environmental Concerns

The Prater's Mill restoration project is underway in Whitfield County, Georgia, following severe storm damage in March 2024 that rerouted Coahulla Creek and posed risks to the dam and surrounding structures. Renovations will address structural issues in the mill and general store, with completion expected before the fall's Prater's Mill Country Fair.

The project has been designed to comply with federal laws, including the Endangered Species Act and the National Historic Preservation Act, ensuring the preservation of historic resources and human safety. The Army Corps of Engineers has also evaluated the design to ensure it restores ecological integrity.
