Primetals Technologies will upgrade voestalpine's BETA 2 pickling line and tandem cold mill (PLTCM) in Linz, Austria, enhancing IT security and automation system availability. This modernization includes upgrading to the latest Siemens PCS7 version and integrating third-party packages into a unified project.

Commissioning is planned for mid-2026. The project aims to improve operational reliability and ensure long-term compatibility with current hardware and software. All automation systems will be integrated into voestalpine's virtualization environment to streamline operations and maintenance. Primetals was chosen for its successful history with voestalpine, including previous upgrades at BETA 2 and BETA 3, and both companies are working on other major projects in Linz, including hydrogen-based initiatives.
