Prince William has installed microfibre filtration systems in his residences, including Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, to prevent microplastics from entering waterways. The devices were developed by Matter, a Bristol-based company and 2025 Earthshot Prize finalist, founded by Adam Root with a £250 grant from The King's Trust.
During the visit, William expressed concern over the scale of microplastic waste and is advocating for installation in other royal properties, including Buckingham Palace. The filtration technology captures harmful microfibres, as demonstrated to the Prince by Matter.
Additionally, William visited the University of Bristol to see Isambard-AI, the UK's most powerful supercomputer, which assists in developing treatments for diseases and predicting extreme weather. He also viewed a paracanoe seat designed for Paralympian Emma Wiggs.
