Progreso Port Canal Dredging Project 74% Complete, Set for Early 2026 Finish
The dredging of Progreso's navigation canal is 74% complete and expected to finish in Q1 2026, enabling larger vessels. The project increases canal depth from 12.5m to 13.5m and width from 145m to 180m, allowing simultaneous navigation of two large ships. Total project costs are estimated at 12.225 billion pesos, with the federal government contributing 10.2 billion pesos. The completion is set for August 2028, with potential for earlier finish depending on weather conditions.

The dredging of Progreso's navigation canal, currently at 74% completion, is expected to finish in March 2026. The project will increase the canal's depth to 13.5 meters and width to 180 meters, accommodating larger vessels.
It is funded by a total of 12.225 billion pesos, with 10.2 billion pesos from the federal government. The completion deadline for the entire project is August 2028, but favorable weather may allow for an earlier finish.
The new earthworks will support future developments including a Green Hydrogen plant and a vehicle terminal. APM Terminals is also investing over 3 billion pesos in modernization of container terminal facilities.
