Prologis Proposes Data Center Complex Near Shelbyville, Indiana, Seeking Annexation and Rezoning

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Prologis, a California-based real estate firm, plans to build a data center complex near I-74 and State Road 44, east of Shelbyville, Indiana. The proposed complex will consist of 13 buildings across over 400 acres, with no tenants identified yet.

Prologis seeks annexation and rezoning of the site, currently zoned for agricultural and single-family residential use. The Shelbyville Common Council will hold a first reading of the ordinance for annexation, with a subsequent meeting for the city plan commission.

The project has faced opposition from local residents, with nearly 2,000 signing a petition against it, citing concerns over water usage, energy consumption, and job creation. Prologis claims the project will generate approximately 450 full-time jobs, with an average annual salary of $100,000, and asserts that water usage will be comparable to an average office building due to a closed-loop cooling system.
