Proposed 20-Story Data Center Tower in Downtown Kansas City
Kansas City officials are evaluating plans for a 20-story data center tower at 934 Central St., standing at 384 feet. The project includes retail space and would replace the historic Western Newspaper Union Building, pending city approvals.

Kansas City officials are reviewing a proposal for a 20-story data center tower at 934 Central St., which would measure 384 feet in height. The plan includes retail space on the first floor and dedicates the upper floors to data center infrastructure.
The existing structure, the historic Western Newspaper Union Building, would be demolished. Revitalization Unlimited is associated with the project, which might utilize a 'closed-loop' water system and on-site natural gas fuel cells for power.
Data centers are permitted in the area, but new regulations require a special use permit and could trigger public hearings. The City Plan Commission is set to review the plan on August 5.
