Proposed Coordinated Power Grid for Atlantic Canada
A report from the Ecology Action Centre outlines a strategy for a unified power grid in Atlantic Canada. This initiative aims to enhance electricity reliability and reduce costs through interprovincial collaboration.

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) has proposed a coordinated power grid for Atlantic Canada, emphasizing collaboration among provinces to enhance electricity reliability and reduce costs. This report is timely, following a review of New Brunswick's power in April that suggested establishing a Maritime Independent System Operator.
The governments of New Brunswick and P.E.I. are currently engaged in discussions about a regional system operator, with P.E.I. Premier Rob Lantz in contact with Massachusetts officials regarding successful models.
The report indicates that Atlantic Canada can learn from existing frameworks in New England and California. Failure to collaborate has resulted in higher electric costs and lower reliability for Atlantic Canadian provinces.
