Proposed Data Center in South Elgin Sparks Local Opposition
A Dallas developer plans to create a data center generating over $1 million annually in property taxes for South Elgin. The proposal faces significant local opposition, highlighted by an online petition signed by over 4,700 residents.

A Dallas-based developer has submitted a concept plan for a data center on a 20-acre site owned by former Kane County Board member Mike Kenyon in South Elgin. The project, projected to generate $1 million in property taxes annually, will be discussed by the Planning and Zoning Commission on August 19.
Concerns have arisen regarding the facility's proximity to residential areas and schools, with an online petition against it receiving over 4,700 signatures. The center is expected to use between 247 and 342 gallons of water per day and requires 48 megawatts of power.
Local opposition is mounting, as residents fear the impact on infrastructure and the environment. The developer claims a closed-loop cooling system will minimize water use and noise levels will be negligible.
