Protection Initiative for Buna and Bunica Rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Buna and Bunica rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are set for protection, supported by the City of Mostar and the Federal Ministry of Environment. Led by the Youth Club 'Novi Val', the initiative aims to preserve these rivers' natural heritage after previous plans for small hydropower plants were halted due to environmental activism. The project will involve research and documentation to secure the rivers' protected status, safeguarding endemic fish species and cultural heritage.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is initiating a project to protect the Buna and Bunica rivers, with support from the City of Mostar and the Federal Ministry of Environment. The Youth Club 'Novi Val' is leading efforts to secure their protected status after plans for small hydropower plants were halted.
The project will involve approximately twenty professors conducting research and compiling documentation for the declaration of a protected area. This initiative aims to preserve endemic fish species threatened by human activities and safeguard the cultural heritage along the rivers. Degradation from illegal construction and waste discharge poses significant threats to these ecosystems.
