Protests Emerge Over Expansion of Yomo-Granarolo and New Data Centers in Vernate Area

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Residents of Vernate are protesting the expansion of the Yomo-Granarolo facility, which is adjacent to a new large-scale data center under construction. Over the past three years, nine new structures have been built along a 20-kilometer stretch connecting the A1 to the A7, transforming previously agricultural land.

Citizens express concerns about increased traffic on already inadequate roads, affecting not only Vernate but also nearby municipalities like Casorate Primo and Lacchiarella. New logistics centers in the area have led to heavy truck traffic, exacerbating congestion.

The local administration is working on expanding entry and exit ramps, but traffic remains a significant issue. Additionally, a new logistics hub near Villa Maggiore and another data center nearing completion in Carpiano further contribute to local grievances. Residents argue that ongoing development threatens green spaces and highlights the vulnerability of the South Park.
