Protium Uses 100% Green Hydrogen for Construction at Pioneer 2 Facility in South Wales
Protium is utilizing green hydrogen to power construction at its Pioneer 2 facility in South Wales, replacing diesel generators with hydrogen fuel-cell technology. This energy system provides reliable power where grid capacity is limited, supporting electrical and thermal loads and eliminating the need for diesel.
The hydrogen fuel-cell and battery solution aligns with Protium's commitment to green energy. Green hydrogen is converted into electricity and heat via fuel-cell generators, producing zero CO₂ emissions.
Taylor Construction Plant supplies the fuel-cell generators and integrated battery storage, which balances generation and storage according to site demands. This approach reduces on-site fuel use by approximately 50%, lowers noise levels, and eliminates diesel handling. Protium aims to pioneer the adoption of green hydrogen in the UK, facilitating a transition to a cleaner energy future.
