Proton Ventures Partners with Barents Blue for Europe's Largest Clean Ammonia Project in Norway
Proton Ventures has joined Barents Blue as a partner in the Barents Clean Ammonia Project in Northern Norway. This partnership aims to advance the development of Europe's largest clean ammonia production facility, with a goal of reaching Final Investment Decision (FID) by 2027 and beginning production by 2031.
The new entity, Barents Clean Ammonia AS, will be 75% owned by Barents Blue and 25% by Proton Ventures. The facility plans to produce approximately one million tonnes of clean ammonia annually and will adhere to EU regulations for low-carbon hydrogen. The project, recognized with a NOK 482 million grant under the EU IPCEI Hy2Use initiative, aims to support Europe’s decarbonization and enhance energy security.
