Proton Ventures Partners with Barents Blue for Europe's Largest Clean Ammonia Project in Norway
Proton Ventures has partnered with Barents Blue to develop Europe's largest clean ammonia production facility in Northern Norway, aiming for a Final Investment Decision by 2027 and production start by 2031. The facility, under the new entity Barents Clean Ammonia AS, will produce approximately one million tonnes of clean ammonia annually and is supported by a NOK 482 million grant from the EU IPCEI Hy2Use initiative to bolster decarbonization and energy security in Europe.

Proton Ventures has joined Barents Blue as a partner in the Barents Clean Ammonia Project in Northern Norway. This partnership aims to advance the development of Europe's largest clean ammonia production facility, with a goal of reaching Final Investment Decision (FID) by 2027 and beginning production by 2031.
The new entity, Barents Clean Ammonia AS, will be 75% owned by Barents Blue and 25% by Proton Ventures. The facility plans to produce approximately one million tonnes of clean ammonia annually and will adhere to EU regulations for low-carbon hydrogen. The project, recognized with a NOK 482 million grant under the EU IPCEI Hy2Use initiative, aims to support Europe’s decarbonization and enhance energy security.
