Prysmian and Rio Tinto Collaborate on Low-Carbon Aluminum Cables for Data Centers
Prysmian has partnered with Rio Tinto to produce low-carbon aluminum building wire using ELYSIS™ technology. This partnership supports Prysmian's sustainability goals, targeting Net Zero by 2035 and 55% of revenues from sustainability-linked solutions by 2028. The companies signed a five-year supply agreement in 2023 to leverage low-carbon aluminum sourced from Rio Tinto's Canadian operations, aiming to reduce emissions in the data center sector.

Prysmian and Rio Tinto have partnered to produce low-carbon aluminum building wire using ELYSIS™ technology, which eliminates greenhouse gas emissions from aluminum smelting. The partnership, aimed at sustainability, follows a five-year supply agreement signed in 2023 for aluminum produced with renewable hydropower from Rio Tinto's operations in Canada.
Prysmian aims for 55% of its revenues to come from sustainability-linked solutions by 2028 and targets Net Zero by 2035. The collaboration leverages both companies' R&D capabilities to support the growing data center sector and reduce its carbon footprint.
