Public Hearing Scheduled for Kern Energy's Hydrogen Fuel Cell Project in California
The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District will host a public hearing on January 12 regarding Kern Energy's proposed hydrogen fuel cell project at its refinery in Lamont, California. The initiative aims to generate zero-emission electricity on-site by utilizing existing hydrogen sources, with a focus on maintaining emissions below state and local cancer risk thresholds. Spanish interpretation services will be available at the meeting.

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District will hold a public hearing on January 12 at 5:30 p.m. regarding Kern Energy's proposed hydrogen fuel cell power generation project. The meeting will take place at the David Head Center in Lamont, California, with Spanish interpretation services available.
Kern Energy has applied for permits to install fuel cell technology at its refinery located at 7724 E. Panama Lane. The project aims to generate electricity on-site using zero emissions fuel cells, utilizing an existing hydrogen source produced at the facility.
A hydrogen purification unit and storage system will be implemented, with emissions expected to remain below state and local cancer risk thresholds. The project also includes a process to temporarily bind hydrogen into liquid form for safer storage. Hydrocarbons removed during purification will be returned to existing systems.
